US businessman Christopher Cox was driving the Ferrari 250 GTO in France when he collided with another vehicle.

His wife Ann suffered a broken leg and two passengers in the other car were taken to hospital.
Mr Cox was en route to Le Mans among a convoy of Ferrari fans – including Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and JCB boss Sir Anthony Bamford – when the accident happened near Blois on Friday. The 21-strong group of multi-millionaires were taking part in the vehicle’s 50th anniversary tour.

Mr Cox’s model rolled out of the Ferrari factory in April 1962. One of only 39 ever built, the 174mph sports car sold with a £6,000 price-tag.

Initially red, it was resprayed blue with a yellow central stripe in 1963. Mr Cox bought it seven years ago.

The value of the 250 GTO has rocketed in recent years with a green model built for Stirling Moss selling last month for a record £22.7million.
