Cadillac SRX Recall
The luxury crossovers are being recalled in order to investigate possible damage to the power steering line. If the line has been damaged, a resulting leak of power steering fluid could potentially spray onto hot engine parts, causing an engine fire. GM has said that it is aware of one instance of the problem in an unattended SRX, however no crashes or injuries have been reported.
According to GM spokesman Alan Adler, owners of affected vehicles can continue using their cars, as there is no imminent risk associated with driving the SRX crossovers. However, he warned that owners should pay close attention to any leaking fluid. If you notice any power steering fluid on the floor of your garage or driveway, he said, you should make an appointment to have the problem repaired with your local dealer as soon as possible.
Interestingly, GM based its analysis of this particular issue on only "two or three of the recalled vehicles," which makes the recall sound somewhat like the search for a needle in a haystack. Given the low percentage of cars that actually have the issue, then, it may be hard for GM to convince owners to bring their vehicles in. AOL Autos recommends that if you are an owner of an affected 2010 Cadillac SRX, you should bring your crossover in for a free inspection at your local dealer.
Adler agrees, adding, “It's really important to take the recall seriously and schedule an appointment as soon as possible. We know that it's a hassle but it's very important.”
GM says that owners of these models will be notified by mail and the inspection and any necessary repair will be performed at no cost to the owner
